Gundam Evolution Coming To Xbox Today

Gundam Evolution Gameplay Director Ryota Hogaki shares some behind-the-scenes ideas for this exciting new free-to-play hero shooter.

Gundam Evolution is a free-to-play 6v6 hero shooter that focuses on fast-paced task-based action. It’s available to play on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S today!

You will pilot different mechs or “mobile suits” from all over the Mobile Suit Gundam universe and shoot them to become the winning team. The action takes place in locations on Earth and in space. Pilots will take targets, plant explosives and use their extensive arsenal to achieve victory.

To learn more about the making of the game, we caught up with Gundam Evolution Gameplay Director Ryota Hogaki to learn about its development, the inspiration behind its boost system, and more.

Hero shooters feature many concepts such as the G-maneuver that are not defined in the anime. What challenges did you face when developing the mobile suit abilities for the shooter hero?

The game features many unique mobile suits, including those with shields, flight capability, high-intensity single shots, snipers, etc. FPS games have the basics of balancing, such as making it difficult for snipers to target maneuverable mobile suits. It’s a “natural” balance in first-person shooters, and it’s carried over into this game as well.

This is because we designed the game so that people who are not familiar with Gundam can easily play it if they like the genre and people who have never played the genre before but want to try it because they like it. Gundam can play it without problems. . We want to recreate scenes that fans of the original story would love to see, but we also want to include things that are essential, interesting, and well balanced in an FPS game. We always think about the balance between them.

Boost system does Gundam Evolution unique in its genre. What was the inspiration for the Boost system?

Under the slogan “Go beyond your limits”, the game is designed around the themes of “fast and exciting team battles in mobile suits” and “defeating enemies, taking full advantage of the characteristics, abilities and power-ups of various mobile suits.” We spent a lot of time on the boost system and re-prototyping. We tried to convey the feeling of piloting massive mobile suits, but we also wanted to create a game that would be widely played in the FPS genre, so we needed a certain level of comfort without disappointing those who expected the experience from the game. original mobile suit pilots.

Unique Feature Gundam Evolution is fast and exciting intuitive control provided by the boost system. The ability to successfully use the different steps and dashes for each unit is an important factor in improving your progress and skills. If you feel that your movements are slow and the controls are sluggish, try using steps, jerks and acceleration in different ways. Ease of use varies from device to device, so until you get proficient, it’s important to choose a mobile suit that’s easy to use.

Could you tell us about the latest mobile suit added to the list?

Yes, “Nu Gundam” [shown in the gallery above] will be implemented starting from the new season. Needless to say, this is the last mobile suit that Amuro has piloted, and it features fins. It is so popular that a life-size Niu Gundam was built in Fukuoka, Japan this year.

Could you tell us about Nu Gundam’s development process and vision for his role in the team?

This is a specialized shooter that excels at medium range. His main weapon, the Beam Rifle, has a high damage output, and with the Fin Funnel and the new Hyperbazooka as follow-up attacks, he can take down his enemies. But to balance that out, it was designed as a mobile suit that is somewhat difficult to use against melee opponents or against enemies with shields.

Please tell us about the new map. What is the unique challenge for players on this map?

The new Colony Trading Post map takes place in a space colony, which is a characteristic location for Gundam’s operations. This is a destruction challenge map set in an urban colony with a wide variety of tricks such as vertical obstacles and conveyor belts. These dynamic obstacles change the line of fire and allow you to attack from unexpected places.

Gundam Evolution has many options to customize your mobile suit, player profile, and more. What additional customization features can we expect in the future?

We will, of course, be adding elements based on the originals as fans have expected, as well as implementing some customization elements that were not included in previous Gundam games to introduce Gundam to a wider audience.

Q: Finally, do you have any advice for players joining Gundam Evolution community?

A: The game is intended for those who love Gundam, as well as for those who are not familiar with it, but are interested in team shooters. Also, since there aren’t many role restrictions, it’s easy to use the mobile suits you like and want to use. We also have mobile suits that are easy to use even for those who are new to FPS games, so please feel free to play with us!
