God of War Ragnarok Special Features Revealed – PlayStation.Blog

The Prophecy of Ragnarok is bringing changes to all worlds, and with that in mind, we’re excited to announce some new special features that will be available in God of War Ragnarok.

Not only have we redesigned our user interface to be more flexible and readable, but we’ve also rebuilt controller remapping from the ground up and added more customization to our combat and interactive systems. We’ve kept all of our accessibility features from God of War 2018 and expanded upon them with over 60 ways to customize your gameplay to suit your style and needs.

Here is a selection of some of the new and notable features.

Features of God of War (2018) for PC – Added in God of War Ragnarok

With God of War (2018) for PC, we’ve made sure to improve and continue working on popular features from the original PlayStation release. We are excited to continue to support these features in God of War Ragnarok for PS4 and PS5:

Sprint Auto Sprint: You will run while the stick is held and stop when it is released. When Auto Sprint is active, you can start a sprint by pushing the joystick forward for a short period of time in one direction. The duration required to participate in an autosprint is configurable by you.

Fixed point (always on the grid): Whether you need extra focal points to reduce motion sickness, or just want a constant reminder of the center of the screen, we offer the option to include a center point in three different sizes and seven different colors.

Target Style: You can use either hold or toggle aiming.

Block Style: You can either use hold or turn the shield rack on/off.

New in God of War Ragnarok

Subtitle and title improvements

We have invested heavily in improving our subtitle and subtitle system to provide even more customization and information.

Subtitle and caption size: We have increased the minimum text size and added new scaling. This includes a very large text size to make subtitles and captions more readable. We’ve also made the text field larger to match TV and movie subtitle standards.

Subtitle and Title Colors: You can customize the colors of speaker names, subtitle bodies, and captions individually. You can choose from seven different colors.

Names of speakers (variants saved from 2018): As in God of War (2018), you can show or hide the names of the speakers. You can set this size regardless of the size of the UI text.

Signatures: With expanded sound effects captions, we’ve added several new ways to understand in-game audio. We’ve added subtitles to both videos and gameplay to provide a complete understanding of the soundscape of the world. You can also include captions for important gameplay information to help with puzzles and narrative understanding.

Blurring the background of subtitles and captions: We’ve included options to blur the background behind subtitles and captions to make them more readable in complex scenes.

subtitle background (variants saved from 2018): In addition to blurring, we have included background dimming options behind the subtitles for better readability in the snow. The high contrast matte includes several opacity settings that you can choose from.

Direction indicator: Critical gameplay sounds now have an additional direction indicator that shows the direction the sound is coming from. To help with puzzles that have sound cues, this indicator will help you navigate in the direction of the source of an important sound.

Text Size / Icon Size

A much requested feature from God of War (2018) is back and better than ever! You asked for readability when playing from the couch, so we listened. With a completely redesigned and responsive user interface, as well as an increased minimum text size that can be greatly scaled, reading on-screen text is easier than ever.

Here’s a look at default UI text scaling and XX-Large for reference.

We also have two examples of in-game icon scaling with the smallest and largest options available to choose from.

Controller Remapping

We’ve overhauled our controller remapping system so you can customize button configurations in God of War Ragnarok. There will be a wide range of preset layouts as well as support for remapping custom controllers. Individual buttons can be swapped, and alternative configurations can be selected from a preset list for complex actions.

We offer you multiple customization options for certain actions that require more than one button, including touchpad shortcuts for things like Spartan Rage, Navigation Assist, and Quick Turn.

High contrast mode

Our new high-contrast color mode allows you to apply color to in-game objects such as targets, enemies, and other characters, in addition to various item types. If this function is active, a color layer will be applied to the characters, which will make them more visible against the background. If you wish, you can desaturate the background to further increase the contrast. Walkthrough paint, loot, and special effects can also be made more visible in this mode.

Setting High Contrast Activation: Select “Off”, “On” or “Always On” for gameplay only (this excludes cutscenes). The high contrast mode can be set to turn on and off with a swipe for quick access. This mode is automatically disabled when entering the settings menu or character menu.

High contrast color setting: Choose a color palette to match your playstyle and customize individual colors for characters, enemies, and items.

High contrast background setting: Separately select the levels of midtone or dark background contrast.

Assistance in navigation: New to God of War, this camera navigation system allows you to orient your gaze to the target of your compass. When you’re not in combat, pressing the Navigation Assist button will orient your gaze in the direction of the next story objective.

Help to bypass: Gap jumps, ski jumps, mantles, and other traversal features can now be automated based on the direction you’re tapping.

Help +: Adds interaction-based movements such as climbing, crawling, and squeezing.

Sound prompts: We’ve assigned an audio signal to each on-screen interactive tip so that when using this feature, you can hear when an interaction icon is nearby, as well as when the button tip is activated.

Sound cues extend to additional combat cues such as unlockable attack rings, aiming cues, and weapon swap cues. The volume of the beeps can be adjusted separately from the other volume sliders, so you can adjust it for your own convenience.
