Games for Everyone: Forza Horizon 5 Accessibility

  • We worked closely with both the disabled community and the Xbox and used the Xbox Accessibility Guide to implement accessibility features in Forza horizon 5
  • Forza horizon 5 Accessibility features include support for American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) for cinematography; setting a game speed modification that allows players to play at a reduced speed; customizable subtitle options; High contrast mode, color blind mode and more.
  • In addition to these accessibility features, we have basic Forza in-game features that make the game more accessible, such as the ability to adjust sound and difficulty settings, controller remapping, and more.

From the very beginning of development from Forza horizon 5, we made it our priority to enable accessibility. We want everyone in the world to experience our game, and with over 400 million disabled players worldwide, it is vital that all players can adapt their gameplay in a way that suits them best.

Only one day left until fans can play Forza horizon 5 Through Early Access and a worldwide launch on November 9th, we’re excited to share new features available and customizable. Many of the features available in the game have been created in collaboration with players from the game developer community and people with disabilities, many of whom have shared with us their experiences and the obstacles they encountered in games.

Accessibility in Forza horizon 5that will be available at launch and can be seen in the video above include:

  • Game speed change setting to allow gamers to play Forza horizon 5 at a reduced speed when playing offline; this feature is great for beginners and those who would like more time to progress in the game.
  • A high contrast mode that changes colors to make it easier for players to distinguish things like menus and text.
  • Color Blindness Mode, which allows color blind players to better visualize game elements. Players can adjust color blindness parameters independently for the game’s UI and visuals.
  • When it comes to subtitles, we know the importance of customization. With their help, you can:
    • Adjust the background opacity
    • Ability to highlight keywords
  • Adjust the font size of the menu and gameplay.
  • A screen reader narrator that reads text, buttons, and other elements aloud.
  • Text-to-speech and speech-to-text conversion for players who want to participate in voice chat and need to send synthesized voice or receive voice chat as synthesized text.
  • Ability to turn off the moving background.
  • A notification duration setting that allows players to set how long notifications will appear in the game.

These are just a few of the accessibility features we are building on, and we continually listen to community input to Forza horizon 5 an inclusive experience for everyone. With that in mind, the team is pleased to announce that we are also working on support for American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) for cinematography in Forza horizon 5… This feature will soon include a picture-in-picture display at the bottom of the ASL / BSL interpreter screen during in-game cinematography.
