New data on US game sales showed that Switch’s incredible streak of sales as the top-selling consoles in the country came to a close month after month.

For the first time in 33 months, a non-Nintendo Switch console topped the US charts in September. According to Matt Piscatella of NPD Group, the Sony PlayStation 5 became the top-selling hardware platform in September in both units and dollar terms.

V series of tweetsPiscatella notes that November 2018 was the last time any console other than the Switch dominated the piece market while the PS4 was still in business. Since then, Switch has led the way every month.

In terms of US statistics for 2021 to date, the PS5 is the best-selling console of the year in dollar terms, but the Switch remains the leader in terms of units sold (the difference here is explained by the different prices for the two consoles, with the PS5 retail price being significantly higher than Nintendo).
