Final Fantasy XVIthe upcoming installment in the long-running JRPG series, will release on June 22 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. This exclusivity is a bit of a bummer like the others last fantasy games like Remake of Final Fantasy VII, were also available on PC. And the last main entry, Final Fantasy XV, was multi-platform. Unfortunately, at least for now, the new last fantasy According to the game’s maker, the game will only be on the PlayStation 5.

Producer Naoki Yoshida, colloquially known as Yoshi-Pi, was mahjong tournament interview at the weekend where he was asked whether Final Fantasy XVI coming out on PC Square Enix confirmed when it unveiled the game almost two years ago. However, despite this detail found in the text of the footnote belowIn the trailer, Yoshi-P said that the release information is incorrect, according to a “rough translation” from Japanese gaming news Twitter account Genki_JPN. In fact, there may not be a PC version at all, as Yoshi-P is apparently suggesting that people go out and buy a PS5 instead.

“No one has said a word about releasing a PC version,” Yoshi-P said. “Why is the PC version coming out in six months? Don’t worry about it, buy a PS5! Sorry, I overdid it. We have done our best, so please look forward to it.”

Interestingly, Yoshi-P claims that a PC version is not planned. Cleaning up some old Final Fantasy XVI trailers, e.g. “Awakening” from September 2020., it has been specifically stated that the game is “unavailable on other platforms for a limited time after release on PS5”, suggesting that it may arrive on other consoles, at least in the future. So it was with Remake of Final Fantasy VII, where the “limited time” window was about a year. However, all of the game’s recent marketing, from new trailers to its official website, now makes no mention of its release on PC. it’s unfortunate given other last fantasy there are games on more platforms than just PlayStation and the fact that Sony’s latest console is still hard to come by. But in the grand scheme of things, knowing just how deep Square Enix’s relationship with the PlayStation is, that’s no surprise. At the very least, an exclusive deal should take advantage of the PlayStation 5 hardware so that there is no download.

Kotaku contacted Square Enix for clarification, but received no response prior to publication.

Along with a strong commitment to the PlayStation consoles, Final Fantasy XVI was adult rating for certain content types presented in the game. Specifically, according to a translation on the Brazilian website Ministério da Justiça, for hate crimes (cheers) and sex scenes (fun).
