Final Fantasy XIV maybe almost ten years (or more than ten if you count original version released in 2010), but MMORPGs are more popular than ever. Following the early access release of its latest and highly anticipated expansion, Endwalker, FF XIV set a new record for active players on Steam, reaching 90,000 today.

And it is likely that this record will be broken over the next few days as more players jump online.

Final Fantasy XIVThe new expansion hasn’t even been officially released yet, but for those who pre-ordered, they were able to get started right away from yesterday with the Early Access release. Just over 24 hours later and now FFXIV set a new record for active players according to version SteamDB

As I write this, FFXIV there are currently 91,699 players on Steam.… The previous record for peak players was set back in July and was just over 67 thousand. Even more impressive as seen PCGamesNis that the popular MMO has more than doubled the number of active players since June this year.base on Steam. At that time, the peak number of players hovered around 41k.

Of course, the main reason for the huge influx of players lies in the new expansion released after years of play.the base is growing and expanding.

Another factor that helps FFXIV probably recent allegations of company-wide abuse and sexual harassment facing Activision Blizzard. This has alienated many players and streamers from World of warcraft over the past few months, potentially accelerates and already shrinking player base for the once venerable MMO Blizzard

And although now 91 thousand players are playing FFXIV of course a lot, it is very likely that sometime Endwalker available to everyone, not just those who pre-ordered the game, the game is active. The number of players will continue to skyrocket, possibly pushing the MMO to surpass the 100K player threshold on Steam, for the first time since its release nearly a decade ago.
