Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Friday showed his support for Fortnite’s creator Epic Games, which challenged Apple Inc. in your App Store. “Apple App Store fees are the de facto global tax on the Internet. Epic is right, ”he said in his tweet.
Apple is fighting a lawsuit filed last year by Epic Games alleging that the iPhone maker has abused its dominance in the mobile app market. Epic broke Apple’s rules when it introduced its own in-app payment system to Fortnite to circumvent Apple’s fees. Apple, which defended its App Store practice both in court and before lawmakers at hearings, did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment. Musk said late Friday that while he enjoys using Apple products, the iPhone maker is “overpricing with the App Store.”

“I mean, 30% of the fees for almost zero extra work is completely unreasonable. Epic wouldn’t handle its own payments if App Store fees were fair, ”he tweeted. In addition, Musk denied reports that he once spoke with Apple boss Tim Cook about a possible acquisition of the electric car maker and taking over as CEO of the iPhone maker.
“There was a moment when I asked to meet with Cook to talk about buying an Apple Tesla. No terms of purchase were offered. He refused to meet, ”Musk said in another tweet.
During a phone call between Tesla and Wall Street analysts earlier this week, Musk shot at Apple criticizing the company’s “walled garden” or its tightly controlled tech ecosystem and the use of cobalt, a key mineral to make lithium-ion batteries.
“I don’t want to be the CEO of a company,” Musk tweeted in response to a comment.
