We now know that Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, the turn-based successor to Suikoden from series creator Yoshitaka Murayama, is coming to Switch thanks to a Kickstarter update back in May. But for a while, we haven’t seen much of the game outside of constant monthly development updates – and in part because of the Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising prequel launched earlier this year.
But publisher 505 Games revealed the game at Gamescom this year, and it showed off a bit more of the game, from cutscenes to visuals. (Thanks Gematsu!)
In the new trailer, we get to know Nova and Sein, whose stories intertwine after meeting during the expedition. The pixel art and animation look a step ahead of Rising, and the environments – misty caves and dense forests – look great too. You may also recognize several characters from the game’s prequel!
We also have a rundown of the game’s story, which seems to echo the style and maturity of the Suikoden series.
Our story begins in one corner of Allraan, a tapestry of peoples with different cultures and values.
Through the use of the sword and through magical items known as “rune lenses”, the history of the land was shaped by the alliances and aggressions of the humans, beastmen, elves, and desert people living there.
The Galdean Empire supplanted other nations and discovered a technology that enhances the magic of runic lenses.
Now the Empire is scouring the continent for an artifact that will further expand their power.
It is on one of these expeditions that Señor Kesling, a young and gifted imperial officer, and Nova, a boy from a remote village, meet and become friends.
However, the irony of fate will soon drag them into the flames of war and force both to reconsider everything that they consider to be right and true.
Check out the new Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes trailer below. We are still waiting for the exact release date, but the game should be released in 2023.
