Microsoft’s recent acquisitions of video game companies like Bethesda and Activision Blizzard have sent the entire industry into a frenzy, with companies like Sony pulling out their wallets to acquire Halo and Destiny developer Bungie.
Now, the latest report from news site Puck says EA is actively pursuing a sale or merger with an even bigger company. According to the report (via Kotaku), the Battlefield and FIFA maker has allegedly already been in talks with the likes of Disney, Apple and Amazon.
It is also clear that there were talks with NBCUniversal about a possible merger, but the two sides were unable to reach an agreement. Both parties declined to comment, and EA said they do not respond to rumors and speculation.
Comcast CEO Brian Roberts reportedly proposed the merger, and had it gone through, Roberts would have remained in power, with current EA CEO Andrew Wilson as head of the new mega-business.
EA is alleged to have been “persistent in pushing for the sale” and became even more energetic after Microsoft struck a deal with Activision Blizzard. He would also like to see Wilson remain as chief executive. And while no deals are currently believed to be underway, the company is reportedly still interested in an acquisition or merger.
