Earlier this year’s E3, there were rumors going around about Nintendo launching new hardware. Bloomberg also released a report in late May on a updated replacement model – supposedly just arrived in September.
E3 went on and on, and before the broadcast started yet, Nintendo killed every hop. new hardware ads with a short message – clarifying how the focus of the show would be purely software ads.
Now, in an interview with the Washington Post, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser has answered a question about the Bloomberg story as well as other reports regarding a Change ‘Pro’. Once again, here’s the line on how Nintendo is “always looking for” new technologies:
“We’re always looking at technology and how technology can enrich gaming experiences. It’s not technology for technology’s sake.”
“That’s how specifically technology can enrich a gaming experience. So where do you apply that technology? Do you want to apply it on existing hardware or existing platforms, or do you want to wait for the next platform? And then what’s the right gaming experience with that?” “There are a lot of factors that go into this, and it’s something we’ve always looked at.”
Doug Bowser made similar comments last December during an interview with the Polygon. He has also been responding to rumors about a new Switch model coming in 2021:
“we always look at technology. And as we know, technology is constantly evolving and changing. And we always look at what comes to determine: How can you improve and enhance the gaming experience? And whether it’s on a current platform, or whether it’s on a future platform, we always look at it. “
In his last interview with the Washington Post, he also mentioned (again) how the “console life cycle” is redefined during the Switch generation:
“When we enter our fifth year, Nintendo Switch is really redefining how it can be a console life cycle, and the vitality of that overall life cycle with a strong cadence of content.”
