Changing Error Code 2123-1502 – Nintendo Seems to Fix the Related Problem with Update 12.0.3

Update # 2: It appears that Nintendo has fixed the dreaded Error Code 2123-1502.

According to Nintendo’s maintenance program on its official website, performed network maintenance on June 20th. It appears that the maintenance has fixed Error Code 2123-1502 – according to some reports, at least.

We also noticed that a game we had issues with last week’s download is now being downloaded without issue.

Distribution of the Switch update data will also take place next week on June 28th. This also includes maintaining the Nintendo eShop, changing parental controls and changing the online app.

Here’s what happened on the 20th (and what will happen on the 28th), according to Nintendo:

Update # 1: As many of you have written to say, the problems related to the Switch 12.0.3 firmware have not been resolved until almost a week after the company restarted the distribution of its latest update.

We contacted Nintendo for comment and will update this post when and when we know more.


Original History [Fri 11th Jun, 2021 15:30 BST]: Earlier this week there was the remarkable opportunity for Nintendo to release a Switch firmware update that offers “general system stability improvements to improve the user experience.” Then, in what appeared to be the first, problems arose and Nintendo paused the roll-out, eventually. restarting the distribution a couple of days later.

The original roll-out issues have been reported by Nintendo in relation to connectivity issues and problems when adding new microSD cards. However, some users still have issues over version 12.0.3 despite Nintendo’s updated roll-out, with error 2123-1502 coming in while attempts to download games or updates fail.

We noticed a surprise number of users in the forum thread on this website, and there are some struggles to download games today. There is also a long thread Reddit full Switch owners with the problem and sharing potential fixes.

For those who have noticeable and ongoing problems, it is certainly worth contacting Nintendo Customer Services for help, while some are indicated on this page for a trial to prove.

Here’s what Nintendo suggests:


  • Please try downloading again
    1. Select OK to close the error message.
    2. A message indicating that the download has stopped because an error has occurred may appear. Select Keep going to try downloading again.
    3. If the same error code appears again, please try to continue the download a few more times.
    4. When the message “Downloading data …” appears, the download should complete normally.
  • Restart the Nintendo Switch console.

    To restart the console, press the POWER button for three seconds, and then select Power Options, followed Turn off. When the console has been turned off, press the POWER button to turn it back on.

  • Clear the cache on the Nintendo Switch console.
  • Try your internet connection

    Try your internet connection to ensure that your Nintendo Switch is always connected to the Internet.

  • Create a new internet connection.

    Create a new internet connection, ensuring that you try to connect to the correct network, and that you receive a strong wireless signal from the network.

  • Manually enter an alternate DNS.

    If the DNS you’re trying to use doesn’t work, entering an alternate DNS can solve this problem.

  • Make sure that the The MTU value in your network settings is set by default (1400)..
  • Connect to the Internet in a different place or access point.

Some also point out that when a download fails to process, they simply keep selecting “retry to download” and eventually it works. In other cases, clearing your Wi-Fi settings and reloading can also help.

It’s worth noting that this seems to affect an unfortunate minority, but it’s not an ideal look for Nintendo – which has usually been very reliable with its firmware updates over the years.
