Just a few weeks ago, we learned that Cannon Dancer, often referred to as Capcom’s unofficial sequel to the classic Strider, was coming to Switch. With no official announcement or confirmation from the West, we carefully concealed our excitement. But now the wrapper is off guys! We now have a new trailer for Cannon Dancer as well as confirmation of a 2023 release. as well as a bit of information about the special physical release that is sure to get fans excited.
The trailer above gives us our first look at Cannon Dancer’s console gameplay, which sees you climbing, kicking, punching and shooting in a glorious retro dystopian future. All this is accompanied grinding soundtrack too; trailer could be better?
Originally released in the 1990s, the jump and run game in Western arcades was cut back due to the limited number of machines and the growing popularity of home games. Designed by designer Koichi “Isuke” Yotsui (known for his work on Strider) and artist Takashi Kogure, the game’s relatively short lifespan has subsequently made it one of the most requested games in arcade history.
Coming out in early 2023, this remastered Switch release will be the first time many of us get our hands on the Cannon Dancer, and what a time it will be to play it! With an all-new translation and additional features, including updated graphics and a rewind function, the re-release promises to be a real highlight.
