By coincidence: Animal Crossing players spotted contention in update 2.0

Nintendo has released the latest major free content update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons and there is something to unpack.
One specific element has been added, the gaming computer, and is being talked about a lot. It’s not so much about the subject as about what has become the topic of conversation on the screens. If you squint, you will notice that there is a chat program and a colorful first-person shooter.
And well, it didn’t take long for players to realize that this could be a nod to Discord and perhaps even Nintendo’s team shooter series. Splatoon (credit, fluffy). While the on-screen play may be FPS, there are definitely some weapons out there that look somewhat familiar.
“No controversy. And mention of the explosion …”
Even Discord picked up the mention – a Twitter account noted how it “officially did it”:
Unsurprisingly, a number of replies immediately mentioned the only official voice communication method on the Switch – the Switch Online app – and how they’d like to see Discord support:
“Nintendo will link to Discord, but will force you to connect to the NSO smartphone app to use voice chat in their games.”
“You know Nintendo, if you mentioned discord in your game, it would be great if your system had all of this, it would be great, please.”
While we’d like it to be some sort of Discord teaser for the next level Switch, it looks like it’s just a cool Easter egg. Have you noticed any other interesting references like this in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update? Leave a comment below.
