As you may recall, Blizzard announced the name change for popular cowboy shooter McCree in their team-based first-person shooter. Overwatch

In case you missed the initial announcement, the character was named after one of the former employees involved in a recent harassment and discrimination lawsuit brought against Activision Blizzard by the state of California.

So what’s McCree’s new name? Now it’s Cole Cassidy. Here’s the full back story:

“The renegade loses first of all his name, and this one gave up his a long time ago.

Running from his past meant running from himself, and every year the gap between who he was and what he became only widened. But in the life of every cowboy there comes a moment when he must stop and get to his feet.

To make this new Overwatch better – to keep things in order – he had to be honest with his team and himself. The cowboy he was rode into the sunset and Cole Cassidy faced the world at dawn. “

As part of this, Blizzard will provide all players with a free BattleTag name change:

As noted above, the new Cold Cassidy name will be added to Overwatch next week, October 26th, and will obviously carry over to an upcoming release. Overwatch 2
