Nintendo released the Wii on November 19, 2006, the successor to the GameCube. He will eventually become one of the best selling game consoles of all time and will push other console makers to add motion controls to their existing machines. And even though this whole motion control thing didn’t work, Nintendo Wii have created a solid library of games, and chances are your grandparents still have it hidden away in their giant entertainment center.

My personal story with Wii it is excitement and then disappointment. I bought the Wii after looking for it shortly after launch. I bought it because my grandparents had it and when I went there and played Wii Sports I was sold. I wanted this. I asked my parents and they agreed to give my brother and me a Wii, probably for the $ 250 price tag. And because they had fun to play Wii Sports too.

After getting it I played a lot Wii Sports with my parents and brother and some friends. Then I played Mario galaxy and Boom blox and then I was just disappointed. My other consoles looked great on my HDTV, but the Wii didn’t. My other consoles had a lot of big third-party games, but the Wii didn’t. Finally, I just got tired of the motion controls. After all, about two years after purchasing the Wii, she was mostly sitting at my TV, plugged in, but never played. A sad end to a console that once brought joy to me and many others.

However, while my personal Wii experience isn’t great, the console itself has a huge fanbase and a large library of games. Of course, a lot of Wii games were bullshit, just spade pieces published on the Wii to cash in on families looking for the next Wii Sports-like experience. But it also had things like Heavenly Sword, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2, and more.

For the curious, here’s what Kotaku listed among the 12 best Wii games circa 2012:

  • House of the Dead: Overkill
  • The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
  • Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
  • Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
  • Knock out !!!
  • Sin and Punishment: The Stellar Successor
  • Super Mario Galaxy 2
  • Brawl Super Smash Bros
  • Injury team
  • Wii Sports Resort
  • Slime world
  • Zack and Vicky: In Search of Barbaros Treasures

Not a bad list, and I’m sure you can think of at least a few games that we missed out on.

15 years later, looking back at the Wii, it’s clear that although I amIt was a huge success for Nintendo and helped fund the company’s bank account, it has never been as cute and loved as the GameCube. or as important as the N64. But it wasn’t Wii U either. and that is, of course, something.
