It was like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla may never end. Long after the seas have swallowed the continents and the stars have gone out, Eivor will still find new settlements to plunder and new cosmetics to play with. But today, Ubisoft announced the almost unthinkable: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has an end, and it’s coming in the next free DLC.

called Final chapter, in an update coming later this year, Eivor will make ends meet and meet a few new historical figures along the way. Ubisoft hasn’t gone into too much detail, but it looks like it’s going to be sort of a winning lap, and probably a bit more low-key than some of the previous Viking DLC adventures.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was released in the fall of 2020 simultaneously with the launch of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The third game in the era of open-world RPGs, it took players to ninth-century England through the eyes of Eivor, a Viking leading his people to an unfamiliar new land after fleeing trauma and tragedy home. This is the best Assassin’s Creed game a few years later, borrowing pieces The Witcher 3 and crowning them with secret strokes in the shadows. The open world itself is layered and one of my favorites.

But Ubisoft wasn’t going to just leave it at that. Instead, as in all his recent games, Valhalla received full post-launch service. This included mini DLC packs full of new items and crossover cosmetics, paid DLC story expansions that took players to Ireland and France, and even a brand new mode. inspired by bagels. Dawn of Ragnarokone of the most ambitious DLC ever, even doubling down on the fantasy side of the game.

But now the years of new seasonal content are coming to an end. And I, for one, feel relieved. Games that keep expanding like Valhalla always made me feel depressed. I usually just wait until all post-release content is gone before returning. Looks like I’ll finally have a chance this winter to go back to the super deluxe full version of Valhalla and polish all the icons on its gigantic map.
