With release Pokemon Legends: Arseus Right around the corner, Nintendo has released a new gameplay review that highlights the downsides of adventure at a time when pocket monsters and humans didn’t become best friends. Avoiding tall grass won’t save you kids when Garchomp and Snorlax come for your blood.

The ancient region of Sinnoh, known in Legends: Arkeus like the Hisui region, it is not always a walk in the park. Of course, you can throw magic orbs at the tiny adorable starters, yanking them out of their natural habitat without too much trouble. But if you’re hoping to defeat some of the area’s largest inhabitants, you’ll need a larger set of balls. The image of Snorlax with evil eyes rushing at the main character of the game will be remembered for a long time.

The video itself, currently in Japanese only, provides an overview of the game’s features and systems, most of which we’ve seen in action before. Your character roams the open areas of Hisui, collecting Pokémon to fill the first Pokedex. Some monsters are easy, others will require weakening in battles with you and your friends. In the city, you can create, buy and sell items, as well as complete tasks. You will set off for the field from your base camp. As you advance in Explorer Rank, you will gain access to new locations, and rideable Pokémon will be the key to getting to hard-to-reach places.

If you look closely, you can catch a glimpse of something even more dire than the evil, aggressive Snorlax. Imagine wandering around a region, bumping into a shiny Pokemon in the wild, and then this happens.

The first of many to leave.

Ah, what a joy it is to watch the fireflies above the world fly off into the sunset before you even throw one Poke Ball. This game will be good, or at least good for making salty sweet tears. Pokemon Legends: Arseus Coming to Nintendo Switch on January 28th. Good luck.
