Here’s a little more about Gothic history via Steam. In short, it’s a living, breathing world where people work, sleep, eat, and fight to survive. It has over 50 hours of gameplay and a wide variety of weapons and spells that your character can use.
The war was fought throughout the kingdom of Myrtana. Orc hordes had invaded human territory and the king of the earth needed a lot of ore to forge enough weapons if his army could stand up to this threat. Anyone who breaks the law during these dark times is sentenced to serve their sentence in the gigantic penal colony of Khorinis, where much-needed ore is mined.
The entire territory, dubbed the “Colony”, is surrounded by a magical barrier, a sphere two kilometers in diameter, isolating the penal colony from the outside world. The barrier can be passed from outside to inside, but once inside, no one can escape. The barrier was a double-edged sword – soon the prisoners seized the opportunity and started a riot. The colony split into three rival factions and the king was forced to negotiate for his ore rather than simply claim it.
You are thrown over the barrier into this prison. With your back against the wall, you must survive and forge shifting alliances until you can finally escape.
