After 24 hours, PS5 and Xbox Series X are still available after UK restocking.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles are still available for purchase from major UK retail stores within 24 hours of their last restocking.

In-demand set-top boxes have been difficult to find since their November 2020 launch, and they usually sell out within minutes of restocking.

But after retailer Game launched a suite of PS5 bundles and Amazon UK resupplied its Xbox Series X on Thursday morning, the consoles remained available for purchase for an unprecedented amount of time, even if the former didn’t fulfill orders until January.

The fact that the PS5 and Xbox Series X remained available for purchase for over a day is welcome news, but it could simply be due to more-than-usual restocking ahead of Christmas, rather than a sign of a change in time.

Console makers have been grappling with inventory shortages for more than 18 months after the Covid-19 pandemic hit supply chains and saw demand for gaming devices skyrocket as countries took social distancing measures.

The head of AMD, which makes processors and GPUs for the PS5 and Xbox Series X / S, said in October that it expects chip supply problems to gradually ease in the second half of 2022.

The press conference last week was attended by Nikkei AsiaIntel CEO Pat Gelsinger said the global chip shortage will last until 2023.

Chipmaker Toshiba also warned in September that supply problems for power regulation chips would continue into the next year and perhaps even into the future.
