Possibly one of the most charming arcade games, The NewZealand Story sneaks into Hamster’s Arcade Archives collection this week (thanks, Nintendo All) and turn us all against the seals again.
In this classic platform game, first released in 1988, you play as Tiki, a kiwi who is forced to go on a rescue mission after his girlfriend and buddies are kidnapped by a leopard seal. This is one of those “cute character, challenging game” Taito games like Bubble Bobble and in this game you have to explore a series of deadly mazes to free your flightless friends.
The game was remade for the DS back in 2007 under the title New Zealand Story Revolution, though Arcade Archives is getting the original copy this week (obviously). A few screenshots from the OG title can be found below.
Tomorrow the classic will be added to the Arcade Archives (January 26), and you can pick it up from the Switch Online Store for $7.99 / €6.99 / £6.29.
Will you be adding this latest addition to your collection? Let us know about it in the comments!
