The cast of the Super Mario Animated Movie was revealed last September, and since then we haven’t heard from anyone other than Chris Pratt (the voice of Mario).
Now, however, in an appearance on an American talk show Jimmy Kimmel live, Charlie Day – the voice of Luigi – spoke a little about his role. When Kimmel prompted, Charlie mentioned that he himself goes to the booth and records the lines and does not know anything about the script at all – this is the secret.
“I’m playing Luigi, actually, I was just writing it down this morning and I wish I could tell you all about it, but they’re top secret with these things… I don’t know anything… Mario is probably in the know. but they don’t say anything to Luigi.”
He went on to joke about how two guys with hammers would break his neck if he tried to tell anyone anything about the upcoming Illumination cartoon. Here is the complete exchange:
In addition to Charlie Day talking about how secret the film is, the film’s producer also previously mentioned how phenomenal Chris Pratt’s voice is as the voice of Mario. Pratt himself said it was a dream come true and “worked hard on it”.
Pratt and Day will be joined by an all-star cast of Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad and Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong.
The Super Mario Animated Movie will hit theaters this December.
