40% of Mario Strikers switch sales in Europe come from just one country

Oh beautiful game. It’s the world’s most popular sport, so the news that Mario Strikers: Battle League has already overtaken Mario Golf: Super Rush’s lifetime sales in Europe less than a month after release won’t come as much of a surprise, even if Super Rush was absent from during the year. We at Nintendo Life are huge golf fans – any excuse to put on flashy pants – but certainly football match will be better! As we are based in the UK, we are legally required to love football more than any other country. Except that this is not true, judging by the physical European sales of the latest version of Mario.
According to GSD (Game Sales Data) physical sales data from June GameIndustry.Biz reportnot Britain, but France has shown the lion’s share of love for football on the European continent – at least as far as Mario is concerned – with 40% of all physical copies sold passing into the hands of French football (and Switch). fans.
Chris Dring of GameIndustryBiz spoke about the GSD stats on Twitter:
These data only take into account physical sales in Europe, so it is possible that other countries bought more digital copies. Germany came in second in the rankings with just over 19%, while Spain came in bronze with around 10% of euro sales. No, the “house of football” did not even make it into the top three!
Battle League ranked third on the June European All Format Chart Behind F1 22 and FIFA 22 – both of which have digital sales included in the GSD data, remember (unfortunately, Nintendo does not disclose digital sales for inclusion). In the UK, the game sold well during its launch week, but dropped to #11 on the Switch sales charts this week.
So, from a physical point of view, France seems to have the biggest football fans, at least in the Mushroom Kingdom version of the game. In our review, the lovely Alex called it “the best sports game on the Switch right now,” so like the lovely people of France, we were thrilled too.
Surprised? Do you think the UK will catch up when the World Cup kicks off? Let us know below how you’ve enjoyed the game since its release, or if you’re more into golf.
