Who is Ghostface and what are the clues?

Creek VI is now in theaters and, as is the case with majority scream moviea lot of it is focused on who is ghostface this time. However, once you understand that, part of the joy of the franchise is that you can review it and see how it all fits together. Was a character missing from a particular scene that you didn’t notice? Did the filmmakers make any jokes that you missed?
io9 spoke to Radio Silence, which features the film’s directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and producer Chad Villella, about some of those allusions, as well as why and how several select characters died or didn’t die. Massive spoilers follow.

First we asked: when you watch the movie for the second time, what can you say about the killers? IIn case you’re only reading this to ruin your life and haven’t seen the movie, the killers are father and siblings Richie (Jack Quaid) from the previous film, who turned out to be Detective Bailey (Dermot Mulroney), Chad’s roommate EthanJack Champion), and Tara and Sam’s roommate, Quinn (Liana Liberato). Three of them!

“I think we had a moment where we were in the editing and it dawned on us, that’s the most obvious thing. [thing]. It’s literally the killer calling from Richie’s phone at the 25th minute of the movie,” Bettinelli-Olpin told io9. “And it’s like, ‘Who got this phone?’ Well, his family. Oh, it must be family. But the pleasure of scream is that he puts it all right in front of you, and then you kind of start mental gymnastics. Maybe it’s not. I don’t know, do I?”
But this is not the only distribution. “There is a picture of Dermot at the police station after that conversation with Hayden. [Panettiere] in front of the kill board, whiteboard,” Gillette said. “And Dermot turns around to look at her, and he’s up against the murder wall. And this is for meHe is hot. We say, “Shit, guys, he’s on the murder wall.” “He’s literally in the Ghostfaces range,” added Bettinelli-Olpin.
And while the identity of the killer is the biggest spoiler, there are also a few other surprises, such as the fact that Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) almost dies but doesn’t die. We asked about the problems with this scene and if Gale could was ever going to die.

“We always wanted Gale to survive,” Gillette said. “It was never on the table for us. But I think calling this sequence…there were a bunch [of challenges]—bBut I think one of the important things was to find a place … Finding a place similar to Gale’s picture.level of success and really placed her in the city in a very specific way.”
When they found the place, the whole picture changed. “We found this amazing loft in Montreal and then really refurbished that sequence to make use of all that space, which is what we love to do,” Gillett said. “To find a location and then kind of write a script in an existing location. And fortunately, this large open space allowed us to actually do a lot of big things. And Courtney was such a game. I mean, it was crazy for us that they didn’t have [Ghostface] phone call. And so not only make the call, but then turn it into the sequence that it becomes, full fistfights, Ghostface vs. Gale., was damn interesting for us. And the number of passes and the number of turns in the scene where Gale has an edge, and Ghostface has an edge, like it was all so much fun to play with. And we’re just really, really proud of the way that sequence turned out. Courtshe’s damn good at it.”

Finally, as our interview was running out of time, I had one more spoiler to ask. And I chose this :hhow the hell does Mason Gooding’s character Chad survive, the man we see with dozens of stab wounds to the chest?
“We love to joke that you can almost hear his body whistling as they take him out,” Gillette joked. “At the end of the day, we’re fans and the thought of killing Mason’s character was nothing to us,” Bettinelli-Olpin added. “Of course, there was talk about it, but for us it was simple: if Dewey can survive this shit, let’s make him Chad now. So maybe in Scream 10Chad has a lot to worry about.
