What is your underdog MCU?
Come next week Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania will be released in theaters and presumably bring Scott Lang’s Paul Rudd adventures are close in a way, at least as long as Avengers sequels for two years.
There were a lot of sub-franchises in the MCU, but Ant-Man has always been one of the strangest things one could talk about. Back in 2015, when the original movie came out, there was concern about it when the widely acclaimed director Edgar Wright gone due to creative differences and was replaced by Peyton Reed. And even ignoring that, the film served as a good punching bag at the time. since then KVM was also in the middle of a diversity problem that wasn’t solved until three or four years later.
Suffice to say, if any early MCU movie could fail, it would be this one. But the original Ant-Man is something of an underrated classic – as much as it could be when it also created Scott’s appearance in Captain America: Civil War– and its continuation Ant-Man and the Wasp also good on its own. You can almost call any MCU movie is reliable entertainment, and nowhere is that truer than in director Peyton Reed’s series of films. They have was a bit great casting choiceand they easily allow themselves to be for a general family audience.
It doesn’t quite look like Ant-Man the franchise gets its due. And there is other parts of the MCU pantheon that exist in a similar space: with Marvel content to blow up MCU shows and movies in the audience until they run out of oxygen, it can be easy to overlook little gems that do their job quite well. For this weekendOpen Channel, we want to know what MCU movies or shows you think are underrated or at least overlooked.
