Jean Smart is a pioneering actor with a career spanning more than 40 years. She is an experienced dramatic and comedy actress but has rarely explored the sci-fi and superhero genres.
However, in 2017, he landed a recurring role in the FX Legion show, which lasted three seasons. As soon as Legion finally, she was cast in Damon Lindelof’s HBO Max series Vigilant as well as Laurie Blake, aka Silk Specter.
During the Variety Actors segment on actors with SNL comedian Bowen Yang Smart reveals that she was a last-minute replacement for Sigourney Weaver, who was initially approached for the role but turned it down. “I was sort of fired from the gun because they took me two days before it started,” Smart told Yang. “I’ll be really honest: I had to thank Sigourney Weaver for refusing the role. So, thank you, Sigourney. ”
Smart had no idea what was going on as he hadn’t heard of it Vigilant graphic novel by writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons. “I didn’t know anything about the graphic novel,” he said. “I didn’t know anything about the story.” I started reading the pilot, and I said, “Oh, God, that’s amazing.” I had never really done that kind of science fiction. ”
It’s not a shadow to Sigourney Weaver (which I crowned the Queen of sci-fi), but you can imagine Vigilant without Jean Smart and his brazen execution as a former superhero turned FBI agent? The Emmys have recognized her powerful performance with an Excellent Support Actress in a nomination for Limited Series or Film.
We strongly recommend watching the entire interview to find out his thoughts on the shoot Vigilant and why being part of the series was a learning experience for her.
Vigilant is currently available on HBO and HBO Max.
