Twitter opens Super Follows for select creators

Twitter finally turns on the switch “Super Follows”, its a new subscription feature that allows creators to charge their subscribers for exclusive content. As of today, the company is making this feature available to a “small group” of creators with plans to expand the lineup in the coming weeks (Twitter has been accepting Super Follows requests since June).

For now, creators can set monthly rates of $ 2.99, $ 4.99, or $ 9.99 to access subscriber-only tweets. Twitter says it will eventually include other features like Spaces and newsletters as well. But until then, the feature essentially boils down to … paying for tweets, which might explain why the company is trying to start with a few people. The initial composition includes:

Of course, if you are particularly interested in one of these topics, or are just a die-hard fan, buying a subscription has its advantages. You will be able to interact with the creators in a smaller and more private forum. This can be helpful if, for example, you are hoping for personalized advice on skin care. On the other hand, asking fans to pay for the content they used to receive for free can be a daunting task.

Super Follows is part of Twitter’s strategy to transform its platform as a destination for creators. In addition to subscriptions, the company is also experimenting by allowing creators to sell tickets for audio chats on Spaces. Twitter is also working on a newsletter platform – it acquired Revue earlier this year – and opened tipping features in its app.
