TweetDeck could soon look a lot more like Twitter’s web app

is a secret weapon for Twitter power users. The column layout allows you to keep tabs on tweets from a large number of accounts at once, using convenient Twitter lists. That might be about to change, based on of the “new and improved TweetDeck” that proves it. At first glance, it looks a lot like Twitter’s standard web application.

The company is testing the renewed TweetDeck with a few users in the United States, Canada and Australia. Twitter product manager Kayvon Beykpour said the updated TweetDeck “a complete tweet composer, new advanced search features, new column types, and a new way to group columns in clean workspaces.” A menu on the left lists a series of “bridges” centered around things like food, entertainment and news, as well as a “primary” bridge.

Any major changes in TweetDeck will surely be met with skepticism from heavy users. Many of those who use the app do so in part of their jobs, and significant updates that disrupt people’s workflow might not sit too well with them.

However, it’s worth remembering that this is a test and things could change before the updated TweetDeck spreads more widely. “Through these tests, we will explore how we can give people more personalization and control with TweetDeck,” Beykpour in a tweet.

Rumors have it that TweetDeck could become part of the company’s subscription service. Beykpour added a bit of fuel to that focus when discussing the app review. “We’ll take these lessons into account as we explore what TweetDeck might look like on Twitter’s subscription offer later. We’ll have more to share as soon as we learn from these texts,” he wrote.
