The 1984 adaptation of Stephen King‘s Firestarter it was only Drew Barrymore’s third film –but it, with ET, catapulted the 9-year-old into stardom. These are some great burning shoes for a new young actor to fill, but the team behind him Firestarter redo he thinks they found the right spark in Ryan Kiera Armstrong.
Armstrong, who has already had a lot of horror experience with roles in it History of American Horror and It: Chapter II, was cast as Charlie, the young woman with the ability to create and manipulate fire, who is perpetually on the run with father Andy after the U.S. government decided he wanted his power for military purposes. She unites Zac Efron, who plays Andy, and Plains Cree actor Michael Greyeyes as John Rainbird, as the assassin sent to follow them. We also get our first look at Armstrong as Charlie, who … looks like a regular photo of Ryan Kiera Armstrong.
Still, new Firestarter has a hell of a pedigree: iis produced by Jason Blum and Akiva Goldsman, and directed by Keith Thomas, who made the critically acclaimed horror film The Watch in 2019. Firestarter it doesn’t even have a release date, but since it only started shooting on May 25, sometimes in 2022 is a pretty safe bet.
