The Suicide Squad
We saw it a couple of days ago. It’s silly. It is by far James Gunn’s best film. It only takes it to another level. It’s an insane movie. At the same time, it was very much the film that I thought it was going to be because the vision was so clear from the beginning. As we pulled it out, it was so clear what we were doing. It’s so much fun. Of course they are naturally biaselessly, but I have found it to be one of the most entertaining films I have ever seen. From A to Z, it’s such a good pace, it has such a car and such a funny time. It’s fun along the way all the time, effortlessly. But then I think what really surprised me was that I was struck by how well it was flowing, but also how it was able to create these little bubbles, these little moments of emotional depth, and visual and emotional poetry. And I felt like it really transcended the genre, and it became something bigger. And then it’s also very silly, and ridiculous in many ways, and super violent. Only gory almost sometimes. And it has shocking moments, but they’re very funny. At the end of the film, it’s completely normal to see this giant shark just gnawing on a person’s head, and some of the people just have a conversation next to it … When you’re an hour and 50 minutes into it. Suicide squad, which will feel completely normal. It’s so irreverent.
