Some North American servers were at maximum capacity for a maximum of seven hours at some points in the past, and average queue times were around 10-20 minutes. On European servers, players have to wait up to 40 minutes.

Square Enix has revealed some measures to address the server’s problems. It has accelerated plans to drive out players who have been inactive for too long. This feature is typically enabled when a new expansion arrives to deal with an increase in player numbers, such as note, but Square Enix will report it soon. Yoshida also asked players to disconnect if they are inactive for free spots.

The editor says the game’s North American data centers have recently been updated. As of this week, the game supports up to 18,000 simultaneous connections in that region – up to 750 players per server worldwide. European data servers are online for such an early update.

Yoshida noted that the global lack of semiconductors has slowed the delivery of servers to some of the data centers. Travel restrictions related to COVID-19 have prevented the server infrastructure team from visiting data centers as well.
