Spin’s new e-scooter is designed to stay on the road for longer

Spin CTO Benny Wong said the S-100T has been subjected to extreme durability tests, including extreme heat and cold. To deal with the kind of corrosion that occurs in coastal areas, the scooter has been tested in salt water mist to “ensure performance in extremely humid and corrosive conditions”.

In addition to durability, the company has worked hard to ensure that bikes spend much less time in the workshop. This includes a more modular design that facilitates the exchange of broken components, and better on-board diagnostics to help repair crews find and remedy problems. A better 500W motor, meanwhile, should handle obstacles and hills without burning, and the brakes are now much more reliable.


A custom and replaceable battery means that the idea of ​​equipment towing scooters off the road every night is also a thing of the past. Theoretically, a crew can only exchange dead batteries for fresh ones and ensure that the scooters are available for use practically all the time.

Spin added that the bike is in the process of new custom software that can be better customized and adapted in the future. This includes improved geofarming and application, in addition to the planned addition of Insight, a scooter-centric ADAS system developed by Drover. Unfortunately, the Tortoise-created remote driving functions they are not available on the S-100T, since they can only be used by three-wheeled vehicles.

The new Spin S-100T will be launched in Sacramento this summer, before spreading to other cities in the coming months.
