Apple CEO Tim Cook hasn’t lost his cool. He had strong words for facebookand people try to do TV show based on Gawker for Apple TV +but in general? The chef looks brilliant if surprisingly bloated, gentleman, your healthy tech grandfather. At least until you speak to him on the phone with Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

The story goes that Tesla was in dire financial straits in 2016. Cook called Musk and offered Apple to buy Tesla. Intrigued, Musk set one condition – that he be the CEO. Cook agreed, deciding he meant Tesla’s CEO. And then Elon Musk, being Elon Musk, said: “No,” Cook did not understand. He wanted to be CEO Apple… It was at this point that Cook reportedly said, “Fuck you,” and hung up.

This is a savory meatball from history, courtesy of LA Times review Power play, a book by Wall Street Journal reporter Tim Higgins on Tesla history. It also contradicts Musk’s yarn spun at the end of 2020. At the time, Musk tweeted“On the darkest days of the Model 3 program, I contacted Tim Cook to discuss the possibility of acquiring an Apple Tesla (at 1 / 10th of our present value). He refused to accept the meeting. ”

That alone would make the CEO of technology tempting, “he said,” he said. However, the plot thickens. Ashley Vance, Bloomberg journalist and book author Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX and the search for a fantastic future, tweeted that Musk told him, “I’ve never met, talked, or even corresponded with Tim Cook.” Musk too tweeted himself, saying, “Cook and I have never spoken or written to each other,” before recounting the same story he tweeted back in December. Musk digs too tweeted that “Higgins managed to make his book both fake * and * boring.”

However, it appears that both men attended a meeting with former President Donald Trump in New York in December 2016. Whether they spoke to each other at this meeting, few really know.

Meanwhile, Cook himself said in New York Times interview earlier this year that he “never spoke to Elon, though [he had] great admiration and respect for the company he has built. ”

In the midst of it all, Higgins also hit Twitter, writing that Musk and Apple gave the opportunity to comment on the story, but they did not. “This anecdote goes back to Musk’s own account of the conversation, according to people who heard this retelling at the time,” Higgins wrote.

It is clear that someone, somewhere, is lying – although, frankly, the fact that this story is generally plausible says a lot about everyone involved. Neither Cook nor Musk are likely to deviate from the official line, but there is reason to believe there may be some tension between the two companies. In recent months, rumors have swirled that Apple is still works on its own electric car… According to rumors, in 2015 “Poaching War”So much so that Musk spoke to a German newspaper. “Important engineers? They hired the people we fired. ”Musk Handelsblatt reportedly reported. “We always jokingly refer to Apple as Tesla’s graveyard. If you are not successful at Tesla, you will go to work at Apple. I’m not kidding. ”Musk also got his fair share of punches at Apple. during a call about income earlier this week and shortly after denied ever dating Cook, tweeted in support of Epic Games

I don’t know, Elon. You don’t quite make it easy to believe everyone nobody it happened.
