French horror movie The Swarm (The Cloud) is hit Netflix on August 6, 2021.

Like director Just Philippot’s first film, the film traveled the festival circuit. There have been screenings at Cannes Critics Week in 2020, and The Swarm she won the Special Jury Prize and the Best Actress award at Sitges International 2020 Fantastic Film Festival. A new trailer has hit the YouTube channel Netflix, and I’ve never known that locusts can be so damn scary.

The Swarm follows Virginie (Suliane Brahim), a mother who lives with her two children Laura (Marie Narbonne) and Gaston (Raphael Romand), on a farm that collapses where she raises food locusts to save her home. His life turns upside down when he discovers that his insect pets have a taste for blood, and now he has to keep the swarm contained before the bugs explode and terrorize the other humans.

Now, if you know anything French horror, this won’t be some typical bug movie, and the trailer solidifies at about that tone. This will be a slow burn and have deeper, darker themes beyond Locust sucking blood and will probably end badly for all involved.

Watch the trailer and let us know what you think.
