Microsoft now lets you sign in to your account without a password

Entering a password every time you need to access your account can get onerous over time, especially if you’ve worked from home in the same sweatpants for the past two years, doing the same routine from morning to night. Isn’t life dragging on? I got distracted.

Microsoft envisions a world without passwords, and I have to admit that this is very attractive. Company now allowing you to access your Microsoft account without password entry though you still need the Microsoft Authenticator app or Windows Hello fingerprint or sign-in face. You can also use an external security key or enable two-factor authentication via SMS or email.

Microsoft started to move towards no password authentication earlier this year, allowing commercial users log into accounts without passwords. This now applies to all users.

The point is, no one likes to fiddle with entering a passphrase of letters and numbers every time they want to access something. And while there are many password management options available, including Microsoft Edge browser, it makes you rely on a third-party service at any time.

The idea of ​​a password is becoming increasingly obsolete as more applications and services rely on multi-factor security. Technically, Microsoft relies on this too, passing authentication to features like Windows Hello, which require biometric input.

You can delete password to sign in to your Microsoft account now. First, you need to download the Microsoft Authenticator app at iOS or Android and set up your account in the application. Then go to Microsoft account control panel in your browser and try logging in. You will be prompted to check your mobile device to confirm authentication. In my case it is asked me to scan my fingerprint before allowing me to login.

Once you’re on the home page of your Microsoft account, go to Security tab. Scroll down and select Enhanced security, then scroll down on the next page to Additional security section and select an option for Account without password… Select an option to enable it and the Authenticator app on your phone will take care of the rest. From now on, you only need your smartphone to confirm your login. If at any time you want to disable this option, you can return to the same security settings panel and add the password option again.
