Microsoft appoints CEO Satya Nadella as president

Microsoft’s advice has called CEO Satya Nadella as president, marking the first time a person has held both positions since company co-founder Bill Gates left the post of executive director in 2000.

The change is the latest recognition of the role Nadella has played in revitalizing the technology giant. During his seven-year tenure as CEO, Microsoft has seen acute growth in its cloud computing, productivity and Azure game divisions. Nadella has also overseen several successful acquisitions including Minecraft, LinkedIn, GitHub and, more recently, game behemoth ZeniMax.

Today, Microsoft is the second most valuable company in the world behind Apple with a market value of over $ 1.9 trillion.

“In this role, Nadella will lead the work to define the agenda for the council, leveraging her deep understanding of the business to elevate the right strategic opportunities and identify key risks and mitigation approaches for council review. ”Microsoft said in its announcement.

As part of the resignation, former President John W. Thompson will return to his role as senior independent director. The move comes a year after Gates he left from Microsoft’s counsel through an investigation into his relationship with a female Microsoft employee, though he still serves as a consultant for Nadella.

According to u Financial Times and In the Wall Street Journal, the company’s board has portrayed the change as a natural extension of Nadella’s direction, and a move that has been discussed informally since the end of last year.
