Jon Favreau directs an all-star cast in the 2011 film Cowboys and aliens including Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell, Paul Dano and many more. He had everything to become a summer blockbuster, but it did not happen. At a cost of $ 160 million, the film grossed just $ 175 million worldwide, thus losing money for the studio. You know what that means – no sequel.
Ten years after graduation Cowboys and aliensScott Mitchell, creator of the eponymous comic, spoke to Yahoo Entertainmen• discuss what, in his opinion, killed the success of the film. “It’s interesting: when he debuted at San Diego Comic-Con, reviews Diversity and Hollywood Reporter were very positive, ”he says. “But the articles that came out after that talked about the box office, and since the box office wasn’t better, the reviews were different, which I don’t think is very fair.”
According to Rosenberg, Universal’s constant micromanagement killed the film’s potential. “Universal has announced a release date for the film, without specifying it with DreamWorks,” he recalls. “If everything was welcome, it would be postponed until next summer. [of 2012] because that way we could get a lot of merchandising. It’s only been 11 months without a break for Christmas. They just didn’t work together, and people were pointing their hands in different directions. It had an effect. ”
But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Rosenberg received again Cowboys and aliens film rights and big plans for the future of the story. “We talked to investors about the new film,” he says. “It cannot be based on anything that came before, so we have to go back to the original material or create a new source material.”
I know Cowboys and aliens was criticized or criticized by the public (according to Rotten Tomatoes), but I loved the combination of western and science fiction. Are there movie fans? What do you think about this?
