Now is a very bad time for a replicant, but it is a very good time to become a fan of Ridley Scott’s 1983 sci-fi masterpiece. Blade runner… We not only got a surprisingly good, albeit completely unnecessary, continuation in 2017 thanks to Dune directed by Denis Villeneuve, but Blade Runner: Black Lotus anime spin-off The series just premiered on Adult Swim earlier this month. Now the man who started it all returns to distant Los Angeles … 2019?

In fact, all we know for sure is what Scott told the BBC (via Indiewire) in an interview this morning: “We [have already] wrote the pilot for Blade runner and [series] Bible. So, we already present Blade runner like a TV show, the first 10 hours. ” Given that there is likely to be a battle between networks and streaming services for a series with such a huge, built-in cult following, I think we can all be confident that this series will hit TV screens.

So the question is, what will the show be about? The immediate answer will be more of the adventures of Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford, probably before the events of the first film. It might just be a series of his other Blade Runner cases targeting bioengineering outcasts called Replicants, which sounds amazing. However, as previously mentioned, the futuristic events of the first film take place in 2019, which can be awkward depending on how much Scott wants to be connected to the continuity of the franchise. It could also be set in 2049, in the era of Villeneuve’s sequel, and show other K cases if Ryan Gosling is interested in more. But the series could have happened then, or earlier, or in another era, completely with all the new characters – not that Deckard and K. have ever been Only Blade Runners operate in the big metropolis of Los Angeles, not to mention the rest of the world.

Blade runner is the second of Scott’s two greatest films to receive a live series. The first is Strangerwhich is controlled Fargo and LegionNoah Hawley, no director involved. Suffice it to say that he is not enthusiastic about the project. There was no announcement when Stranger or Blade runner will go to TV, but now you can watch Blade Runner: Black Lotus Sunday at the pool for adults.
