Amazon wants to see recreational marijuana use legalized at the federal level, according to a new blog post by Dave Clark, the CEO of Amazon’s consumer companies. According to Clark, the company will also stop drug testing for weeds, and treat cannabis as major entrepreneurs already treat alcohol. Presumably, it means you shouldn’t do it at work, but go ahead and smoke in your own home after work hours.
Amazon said in a blog post (emphasis of ours):
In the past, like many employers, we have disqualified people from working on Amazon if they have been positive for marijuana use. However, given where state laws are moving in the United States, we have changed course. We will no longer include marijuana in our full drug screening program for any position not regulated by the Department of Transportation, and will treat it instead as alcohol use. We will continue to perform dysfunction checks at work and test for all drugs and alcohol after each incident.
But it gets even better:
And because we know this problem is bigger than Amazon, our public policy team will actively support the 2021 Marijuana Opportunity Investment and Dissemination Act (MORE Act) – federal legislation that would legalize marijuana at the federal level, eliminate criminal records and invest in affected communities. We hope that other employers will join us, and that policy makers will act soon to pass this law.
How will it be? Interestingly, this announcement was part of a blog post about Amazon’s desire to be “the best employer on Earth and the safest place to work” and let’s just say that the tech giant isn’t even here, given the everything piss in bottles what.
But what weed probably makes Amazon maybe 1% less bad! Now on to that syndication stuff…
