Amazon may move to live audio with a focus on music

Amazon may be the next to want to join in with live audio, although its approach may not be what you’d expect. Axios sources claim Amazon is developing a live sound offering that will focus on music, including concerts and other events – more like Spotify than Clubhouse. The company is reportedly looking at podcasts and talk radio as an extension, but Amazon Music will lead the project.

The internet giant also hopes to embed live audio into Twitch. Sources did not say how or when this might happen.

We asked Amazon to comment on the rumors. At the very least, it wouldn’t be surprising if Amazon jumped into the live sound space. Amazon recently integrated Twitch streaming into the Music app, and Wondery’s 2020 acquisition of podcast subscriptions signaled its intention to dive deeper into audio. There is also the simple question of competition. Spotify, Twitter Spaces, and Facebook Audio Rooms can pose a threat even if Clubhouse doesn’t. That would at least give Amazon a foothold before others dominated the category.
