Owls (or very early birds) will now pay less for an Amtrak ride.

On Thursday, the company announced train fares ranging from $5 to $20 for routes running from 7:00 pm to 5:00 am on select northeast lines.

Cheaper routes will serve stations in their Northeast Corridor like New York, Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia and more. For example, an overnight train from New York to Newark, New Jersey will only cost $5.

The discounts are for “travelers returning from concerts, performances, sporting events, or those who prefer a late or early check-out,” the company said. Thursday announcement.

The new overnight pricing could ease the pressure on travelers to keep spending even as inflation squeezes their wallets. For example, flight bookings have remained strong as consumers value travel more post-pandemic hiatus.

In particular, Amtrak’s northeast route became more expensive last year, sometimes even more expensive than plane tickets, as the corridor is popular with passengers and connects major cities in the region.
