Amazon Studios has released its first image of its upcoming untitled series “Lord of the Rings,” slated for its streaming service on September 2, 2022.
The most expensive television show in history has wrapped up its first season.
Amazon Studios ’“ Lord of the Rings ”series – which would have cost $ 465 million to make – ended the film in New Zealand on Monday. While the show hasn’t had a title so far, it has a release date: September 2, 2022.
Directed by JD Payne and Patrick McKay, the series is set during the second age of author JRR Tolkien, a period in the history of Middle-earth thousands of years before the events of “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings “.
Details of the plot are scarce, but Amazon said the show will follow a group of characters. Those who have read Tolkien’s “Silmarillion” will know that Sauron, the main villain in theatrical films, came to power during the second age and falsely secreted the One Ring.
“As Bilbo says,‘ Now I think I’m ready enough to go on another trip, ’” Payne and McKay said in a joint statement Monday. “Living and breathing Middle-earth these past few months has been the adventure of a lifetime. We can’t wait for fans to have the opportunity to do the same.”
