Starbucks’ new Apple Crisp Macchiato
Starbucks launches fall with the crispy apple pie, the latest addition to limited time to its seasonal line.
The espresso drink will be joined by pumpkin spice milk and pumpkin cream on the fall menu of the coffee chain this year, which returns Tuesday to U.S. and Canadian cafes.
The macchiato, an espresso drink with a splash of foam on top, has been on the Starbucks menu for more than four decades. This version is made with apple and brown sugar flavors and seasoned with an apple caramel powder, made with apple puree. Customers can have their drink both hot and frozen.
The company said its research and development team was inspired to discover the flavors of autumn beyond the pumpkin for the new drink, landing on a spicy cooked apple. According to market research firm Datassential, apples are one of America’s favorite fruits, and apple or apple flavors appear on about 58% of American menus.
“Pumpkin spice is now a predefined option on fall menus, so food service operators need to find new flavors to distinguish themselves, which is why we see additional flavors like chai and mela tending to fall. ”said Datassential tendologist Mike Kostyo.
He added that fruit flavors like apple work well in hot and cold drinks, which is especially important when Starbucks and other coffee chains spread their fall menus earlier each year. Dunkin ’rival, which is privately owned by Inspire Brands, recently launched Apple Cranberry Refreshers in its fall line in mid-August.
Starbucks customers have also ordered more cold drinks all year in recent years, even as they prepare for cooler temperatures during the fall. Last year, the cold-blooded pumpkin breeder also sold pumpkin spice milk. In Starbucks ’third fiscal quarter, cold drinks accounted for 74% of total beverage sales in the United States.
Shares of Starbucks have risen more than 7% this year, giving a market value of $ 136 billion.
