Netflix’s push for live-streaming comes with a number of new experiments as the company hits a subscription challenge. To address this issue, Netflix rolled out a new tier of ad-supported streaming in November as a cheaper option for subscribers, despite the platform’s earlier ad resistance. Co-CEO Reed Hastings also said the company would consider adding live sports following the success of the Formula 1 documentary series Drive to Survive.

Since 2007, the SAG Awards have aired on TNT and TBS, owned by Warner Bros. Discovery. TNT has been broadcasting the event since 1998. Warner Bros. Discovery parted ways with the SAG Awards in May when the newly merged company was restructured.

While the awards show they are struggling to boost the ratings of traditional TV broadcasts, other streaming platforms are considering taking over. Amazon Prime first streamed the Country Music Awards in 2022 and plans to do so again this year.
