Mattress Mac sets record for $5 million bet on Cincinnati Bengals

Jim McIngvale, better known as “Mattress Mac”, made history by placing a $5 million bet on the Cincinnati Bengals, the biggest legal sports bet ever. The previous record was set by a $4.9 million Super Bowl bet in 2002.

A single money line bet was placed on the Louisiana-based Caesars Sportsbook app, which launched mobile sports gambling on January 28.

Last week, McInvale, owner of a furniture gallery in Houston, drove across the Texas border into Louisiana to place a $4.5 million bet on Bengals. If the Cincinnati team wins, he will receive $16.2 million.

Mackingwale is known for making multi-million dollar bets on big games. Last year, he lost a $3.25 million bet on the Houston Astros in the World Series and a $6 million bet on Alabama winning the college football championship in January.

Mack said in an interview with CNBC that he bets on sports as insurance for promotions he runs to attract customers to his furniture stores in Houston. The current promotion promises refunds on purchases over $3,000 if the Bengals win the Super Bowl.
