HSMTMTS star Joshua Bassett still doesn’t know his Disney salary.

Joshua Bassett has a busy schedule. Between his film, television and music careers, the 21-year-old High School Musical: The Series star doesn’t have much time to take care of his finances.
Speaking to CNBC Make It while promoting his third EP, Sad songs in a hotel roomBassett admitted that he doesn’t really know how much Disney is paying him to play Ricky Bowen on the hit show, which is in its third season.
“I still don’t know how much money I will make from High School Musical. It’s a true story,” Bassett says. “I’ll tell my business managers, ‘I don’t want to know. If I need to worry, let me know.”
This choice was partly influenced by past experiences of ruin, he tells Make It.
“I was living in my car with a negative dollar in my bank account, so I saw both sides of the coin and decided not to let it dictate how I live.

Indeed, despite the fact that his “agents hate it,” Bassett has no problem turning down potentially lucrative opportunities if they don’t align with his values.
“If I’m offered a film for something that takes seven months to shoot and I don’t really believe in or support the idea of that film, I’m not going to waste my time on it because I could spend seven months. making music that I have a passion for,” he says.
Part of this financial peace comes from the fact that Bassett doesn’t live a particularly expensive lifestyle. He bought a Honda Civic when he landed on High School Musical and is still driving three years later.
“I love that the Civic keeps a low profile. They are very easy to manage.
Aside from his modest car habits, the singer is not a shopaholic and actually only owns one pair of shoes.
“I have Converse, black and white. And this is the only pair of shoes I have, period,” he says. “I am overwhelmed with choices and am a very minimalist. I like to keep things simple.”
For now, Bassett is content to follow his music, film, and television career in whatever direction his passions take him. However, he will not let money influence his decisions.
“I was the happiest person who ever lived in my $1 minus car, so obviously money doesn’t affect happiness,” Bassett says. “While it’s obvious that in practice, yes, money can bring a lot of comfort and a lot of wonderful things, at the end of the day, the world depends on you.”
Sad songs in a hotel room will be released September 23rd.
