According to head coach Bruce Arians, head coach Bruce Arians, Antonio Brown is no longer playing Tampa Bay after the long-range receiver left the field during Sunday’s 28-24 win against the New York Jets.
Brown took off his shoulder pads and jersey, ran over the outer zone, and made his way to the team’s dressing room in the middle of Sunday’s third quarter at MetLife Stadium.
At the time, the Buccaneers were down 24-10 and were leading down the field attacking, but Brown was not one of the players in the game.
When asked about Brown at his post-match press conference, Arians said: “He is no longer Buck. This is the end of the story. “
According to a FOX broadcast, Brown was “boiled” over something and couldn’t be persuaded to stay with the team.
His colleague Mike Evans tried to keep Brown from removing his shoulder pads, but to no avail.
Brown was seen standing in the end zone making a “peace” gesture to the crowd as the teams played on the other side of the field.
At the time of his departure, Brown had three hits with five targets at 26 yards. He has 42 catches at 545 yards this season and four touchdowns in seven games.
The 33-year-old has traces of off-field incidents, distractions and legal issues since his early days at the Pittsburgh Steelers. Most recently, Brown was disqualified by the NFL for three games this season for tampering with the COVID-19 vaccine card.
Brown spent the first half of the 2020 season in suspension for numerous violations of NFL’s personal conduct policy. He surrendered to Florida police in January 2020 on charges of assault, burglary of an unoccupied vehicle, and criminal injury.
He was released by the New England Patriots after one game in 2019 over sexual harassment allegations and threatening text messages sent to his prosecutor. New England took on Brown after he was freed by the then Oakland Raiders before he played in the game due to multiple odds.
