Hasbro appoints Chris Cox as new CEO

Three months after the sudden death of former CEO Brian Goldner, Hasbro has appointed a new CEO.

Chris Cox, who served as President and COO of Wizards of the Coast and the Digital Games Business Unit, has been promoted to a senior management position. He will take over as interim CEO Rich Stoddart on February 25th.

Also at that time, Stoddart, who has served as the company’s independent director since 2014, will become chairman of the board of directors, while Eric Nyman, who has spent 18 years at Hasbro in various roles, will take over as president and chief operating officer. Nyman will lead the company’s overall consumer licensing and partnerships strategy and global supply chain.

“Having known Chris for many years and working more closely with him over the past few months, I have no doubt that he will be an outstanding leader in the next leg of Hasbro’s journey,” Stoddart said in a statement Wednesday. “A storyteller and gamer at heart, Chris naturally understands how to create and develop brands to keep fans and consumers connected across channels. He is a strategic leader with the vision, skills and experience to deliver our brand vision for accelerated growth. ”

Cocks has been part of the Hasbro team since 2016, working primarily with the Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, and Duel Masters franchises. Under his leadership, Wizards of the Coast has become a major source of Hasbro’s revenue. It has more than doubled since Cocks took the helm and generated $ 1 billion in revenue in 2021.

Prior to his tenure at Hasbro, Cox worked on leading Microsoft teams that focused on MSN and Xbox Games with franchises such as Halo and Fable.

“Hasbro has amazing brands, talented storytellers and unique entertainment venues, and I am delighted to take over as CEO at this important time and have built the solid foundation Brian has built,” Cox said in a statement.
