The Federal Aviation Administration said Monday it is proposing a fine of more than $1.1 million against United Airlines for allegedly failing to conduct the necessary fire safety checks on his Boeing 777s.
United did not immediately comment.
The FAA said that in 2018, United removed the fire warning system check from its pre-flight checklist and flew 102,488 Boeing 777 flights from June 2018 to April 2021 that did not meet airworthiness requirements.
“Inspection is required in the service manual. The removal of the check resulted in United not completing the required check and operating an aircraft that did not meet airworthiness requirements,” the FAA said in a statement.
