Timothy Chalamet stars in Warner Bros. “Dune”.
Denis Villeneuve will have the chance to create the second film in his planned two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune, Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. reported on Tuesday.
The news comes after Villeneuve’s Dune grossed $ 41 million at the box office during its weekend debut, a solid success considering the film also launched on HBO’s Max Friday. The film grossed $ 220 million worldwide.
While Warner Bros. seemed to be eager to allow Villeneuve a second film, Legendary owns the cinematic rights to the novel and had to get involved in order to continue the story on the big screen.
The second film is expected to focus on Paul Atreides (Timothy Chalamet) as he joins the Fremen and works to bring peace to the desert planet of Arrakis.
Dune: Part Two will debut October 20, 2023.
