Alec Baldwin fires a rifle on the set of the movie, killing a crew member and wounding the director.

On Thursday, actor Alec Baldwin fired a gun on the set of the film, killing the director of photography and injuring its director, police said.
According to the Santa Fe County Sheriff, 42-year-old Halina Hutchins was killed and 48-year-old Joel Sousa was injured on the set of The Rust, which was filmed at Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Hutchins was airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Sousa was taken to the Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center to treat his injuries.
The circumstances of the shooting are being investigated. No charges were filed.
“We received terrible news tonight that one of our members, Halina Hutchins, director of photography for Rust in New Mexico, passed away from her injuries on set,” said John Lindley, President of the International Guild of Cinematographers and CEO Rebecca Rein, in Variety statement…
“The details are unclear at this point, but we are working to find out more and we support a full investigation into this tragic event,” the statement said. “This is a terrible loss and we mourn the passing of a member of our Guild’s family.”
Hutchins graduated from the American Film Institute in 2015 and worked on several short films before starring in the 2020 feature film Nemesis, starring Joe Manganiello. Born in Ukraine, she holds an MA in International Journalism from Kiev National University and previously worked as an investigative journalist for British documentaries in Europe.
In 2019, she was selected as one of the rising stars of American cinema.
Hutchins’ death echoes the death of actor Brandon Lee, son of martial arts movie legend Bruce Lee. Brandon Lee died of a rifle shot while filming The Crow in 1993.
“There was an accident on the set of Rust in New Mexico today involving a misfire with a blank rifle pistol,” a Baldwin spokesman said in a statement to NBC News. “Production has been suspended at the moment. The safety of our actors and crew remains our top priority. ”
Baldwin, 63, is a co-producer on Rust and plays notorious criminal Harland Roost, whose 13-year-old grandson has been convicted of accidental murder. Rust travels to Kansas to break out of prison, and soon the two fugitives must overtake US Marshal Wood Helm and bounty hunter Fenton “Preacher” Lang.
Earlier Thursday, Baldwin posted a photo of himself in a suit for the movie with fake blood on his shirt on Instagram.
Baldwin, recently best known for playing President Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live and starring in the NBC comedy 30 Rock, won several Emmy and Golden Globe awards and was nominated for an award. Oscar and Tony.
